Lifehacker has several very interesting articles on using VPN's for safe Internet café surfing - including roll you own using SSH tunnels. But, as always, I look forward to Don doing VPN's. I use HMA for viewing TV in other countries - it does cost but it also works well so happy camper here.

That is very cool - thanks for sharing that gem, Pete. I must say, I've been using the Trackpad for a while and like using it a lot. Don't quite know where my old mouse is now! Must find it and take the battery out. I use an older bluetooth "full" keyboard, could find plenty of shortcuts to assign to buttons on Trackpad.

Requests for New Shows - Show about iCab mobile (Web browser)

Yes greeting fzelders. You might be surprised to know that iCab has been with us for many years. Way back in the old Mac Classic days of OS 8 and after. The developer had it as a free Mac app back then and it was probably used more then IE for Mac, everyone hated IE, but Apple did some deal with Microsoft to have IE on every new Mac for a certain amount of time.
There was Netscape which is actually still around too, this was on the older Macs that ran System 6 and Netscape at version 2 or something. Netscape had scripting problems on a lot of web sites, mainly because page designers didn't really know what they were doing anyhow. You wouldn't of never used Netscape on myspace for sure.
When it was around v4.5 or something, it was Ok, still patchy, nice for email and also a web page builder too, which is where I learnt some basic html too.
iCab kept developing over time and has always said that in the future it would start charging for the app and I think they did when OS X came out, can't be to sure though.
I have it it on my iPad, but haven't put it on my iPhone for some reason, not because I don't want to, just haven't put it on it. The features are great, private browsing, had tabs in iOS before Safari I'm sure. Great ad blocking, site blocking and things, runs nice and fast and stable.
I don't seem to use it though, I tend to stick with Safari, just that Apple keen in me
Actually, isn't iCab on older Nokia phones as well? possibly on Android but don't care if they have anyhow
Yep, great browser, Don could make a bit of a show out of it with the features that are in it. So good on you for pointing it out

<marquee>* </marquee>

Requests for Help - Mac or MobileMe Related - iTunes Match

So, have I got this right?

After subscribing to this service, all my music gets copied across to the iCloud servers - those items of mine which are in the iTunes catalogue being simply replaced at 256 kbs from the iTunes catalogue instead of uploading my actual files. I think that bit's right.

Now, having done all that so that my music is now streaming from iCloud, I can delete my music files from my Mac, freeing-up valuable disk space.

Question 1:
If I don't subscribe again to iTunes Match, have I lost all my music?

A lot of my music is not downloaded from Apple or Amazon etc or ripped from CDs, but copied from my vinyl records and cassette tapes, complete with crackles, hiss etc.

Question 2:
Will these files be replaced by Apple's higher quality hiss-free versions or is it likely that I'll still be listening to my own copied records, but streaming from iCloud rather than playing directly from my Mac?

Thanks for any help, advice or corrections.

Hi all,

Thank God for Don, right? I recently uploaded my DVD's to iTunes using HandBrake and iVI - works great! I also have many instructional DVD's for airbrushing, art and dioramas and I like to convert them as well for easier viewing as well but the same process is not working. Does anyone have any suggestions for converting these types of DVD's? Thanks.

Hi, Don (and anyone else who is just getting around to compiling the 2010 dvd).
I forgot to finish downloading and compiling the 2010 DVD, so today I opened the program you sent out last year to finish the downloading, and to compile it into a zip file. It looks like the downloads went fine, but while it is checking the files before compiling the zip file, it uses up all my free RAM, and then stops the process. I suspect it might be that the program doesn't work properly under Lion, or that maybe one or all the files are corrupted. Any insight into why this is happening? Can I use another program to compile the zip archive? I'm on Lion with 6 gb of ram.
Thanks for the help on this. I'd like to get it done before the 2011 dvd comes out.
Barry

Works for me in Chrome, I hardly use it, so maybe try cleaning the cache out maybe? I notice just using it then that it stalls, loads, stalls, but quickly. Sticking to Safari I thinks

<marquee>* </marquee>
