The addition of location data to your photos and videos when using your iPad or iPhone is a tremendous boon. With it, you can search by location or even see your photos and videos on the "Places" map view.

But there may be times when you don't want to publish the location information with shared photos and videos.

In this tip, I demonstrate both switching off location acquisition when taking images, as well as stripping location metadata using a 3rd party tool called ViewExif.

Affinity Photo 1.5 Update

Date: 10th February 2017

Duration: 48:03

In SCOM0560 and SCOM0565, Allison Sheridan introduced us to the highly capable image editor, Affinity Photo from Serif. This $50 Mac App Store application is turning the photo editing world on its head.

In the previous tutorials, Allison taught us how to use the Affinity Photo extensions within Apple Photos, and then revealed the full power of this excellent application.

In this week's tutorial, Allison is going to show us the massive capabilities that Serif added (for no upgrade cost) with their update to Affinity Photo 1.5. In addition to being able to round trip images to Affinity Photo from Apple Photos now, you can edit 360 photos, record macros of common tasks, do batch processing on many photos at once, focus merge, shallow depth of field images, and they've even added HDR and Tone Mapping.

Whether you're a professional photographer or an amateur who just enjoys photography, Allison promises you'll find these tools easy and intuitive.

Two great apps this week - FotoMagico to take your slide shows to the next level, and Scanner Pro 7, the portable scanner in your pocket.

You may thing you’ve got slide shows covered with Apple Photos, but you really haven’t when you take a look at the functionality built into FotoMagico!

We had a brief look at Scanner Pro 7 in a previous show, but I was very impressed with its capabilities and wanted to drill down a bit more.

Photoshop is a fantastic app, but for some people it’s much too powerful (or too complex) for their limited needs, and for others, they don’t want to be paying for an app on a ongoing subscription basis.

Affinity Photo is a terrific alternative to Photoshop - all for a single one off payment!

As well as some fantastic Apple Photo extensions that can be used in the Apple Photos app, Affinity Photo can also be used as a standalone application, with some incredibly powerful features - all aimed at helping you edit your digital images like a Pro.

Allison Sheridan previously covered the Affinity Photo extensions in episode SCOM0559.

In this episode, she takes a look at using Affinity Photo as a standalone application, and exposes some of the power of this fully featured app.

The 4th and final installment in our Adobe Photoshop series.

In this episode, Todd takes a look at some of the powerful editing and retouching tools in Photoshop CC for the Mac, as well as exploring some of the photo adjustments available in Photoshop Express for iOS.

There’s so much to cover, Allison will be featuring Affinity Photo in two parts - in this initial episode, she’ll take a look at using the wide range of Apple Photo Extensions provided as part of Affinity Photo.

In a future episode, she’ll take a look at using Affinity Photo as a standalone application.

Another information packed episode in our short Photoshop series, this time focussing on using Masks to improve and adjust selected areas of your photos. Even if you’re not a Photoshop user, this episode covers some of the basic principles of using masks and translates to almost every other photo manipulation app.

In this episode, Todd Olthoff also takes a look at Photoshop Mix for the iPad & iPhone, and demonstrates how to create masks, adjust your photos and mix photos together - all using the free Photoshop Mix app.

The second in our multipart series on Adobe Photoshop on the Mac and the Adobe Photoshop apps on iOS.

Many people have opted to use Adobe Lightroom as a replacement for Apple's recently retired photo management application Aperture. Adobe Photoshop is a pro-level photo manipulation and is available to supplement Lightroom in a special bundle from Adobe.

In this episode, Todd Olthoff drills down into using Layers in Photoshop to non-destructively edit your images. The basic principals of using layers are very similar across many applications, so even if you're not a Photoshop user, you may still find this episode useful.

Todd also looks at the iOS companion app - Photoshop Fix.

Photoshop Fix is a free universal app for the iPhone and iPad and allows you to edit your images non-destructively. It also has some unique features for face manipulation and some other cool tools.

Photoshop Fix is free to download and use, but if you're a Photoshop user, you can transfer the updated images from your iOS device with all the layer changes accessible in Photoshop - very smart!

As not everyone has opted for Lightroom or has a need for Photoshop, the Photoshop series will be limited to a three or four part series, published once a month. We will also be looking at some low cost Photoshop alternatives in the near future.
