Tip Video - We have covered Apple Photos in depth on ScreenCastsOnline, but in this short tip video, I want to revisit how to create and manage metadata with your iCloud Photo Library.

On both the Mac and iOS, Apple Photos is getting smarter by applying machine learning technology on the device, to automatically categorise photos. However, there are still instances when you want to add your own personal metadata in the form of titles, descriptions, keywords or location information.

In this tip video, I focus on adding title and keyword metadata via the Info Panel and the Keyword Manager.

Apple's new AirPods have been out for a month or two now and I've had time to have a good play with them.

In this slightly shorter, live video show, I take you through the initial setup and usage of the AirPods on all the supported Apple platforms - iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac. I also take a look at setting up the AirPods on a slightly older Apple device - an iPod touch.

I have to say, I've been delighted with the AirPods and Apple have added their secret source to make the setup and switching a breeze.

Continuing with our look at Apples latest OS for the iPhone and iPad, I also take a look at some of the new features of the dramatically enhanced watchOS 3.

Apple have significantly improved the Apple Watch with the release of watchOS 3 by increasing performance and removing the friction points that were so evident in the first releases of watchOS. Performance is drastically improved and the usability of the Apple Watch has been transformed - so much so that unless you really need GPS or waterproofing, upgrading to a series 2 Apple Watch is optional.

In this episode I explore some of the changes made to enhance the functionality of the Apple Watch and demonstrate some of the new constructs for accessing and navigating Apple Watch apps.

With the recent release of both iOS 10 and macOS Sierra, this episode covers some of the new and updated features of both operating systems, as well as some handy tips on migrating your iPhone and Apple Watch to new devices.

macOS Sierra 10.12 Release Show

In this special release show, I walk you through some of the critical elements in making sure your installation goes well. From creating a bootable backup to doing either a fresh install or an in-situ upgrade.

iOS 10 Release Show

It’s iOS 10 release day and to celebrate, we’re releasing our first iOS10 video a few days earlier than usual.

iOS10 is a huge release from Apple and includes many new features as well as a bold visual redesign for many of your favourite apps.

iOS9 has really improved the ability for iOS Apps to interchange files and documents, but it’s still very confusing.



In this episode, I take a look at iCloud Drive on iOS and the Mac and try to explain how it all works. I also take a look at local storage options in various apps on iOS to explain just what is a “Document Provider”, as well at how the system wide Document Picker can be used in many different scenarios.

With the Apple ecosystem being tightly integrated across all platforms, one update has an impact on all the others. Last month Apple released updates to OS X, iOS, watchOS and tvOS.

iMovie 10.1 - Working with 4K

With the advent of the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus, 4K video is now available from your smartphone.

To compliment this new feature, Apple have released updates to iMovie to allow you to edit and export in glorious 4K. But not everyone wants to create 4K videos (for various reasons). The good news is you can future proof yourself by shooting in 4K today, and gain some tremendous benefits even if you want to create 1080p videos.
