Apple Music - Under The Hood

Date: 7th August 2015

Duration: 31:40

Show ref: SCOM0515

Apple Music has now been out for a couple of months, and it’s still the cause of much frustration for some people.

There seems to be a deep misunderstanding of some of the core concepts, as well as a feeling that Apple is perhaps expecting too much of iTunes, by shoehorning too many features into this very old application.

In this show I’m going to try and dispel some of the FUD - that’s Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt, that seems to be prevalent, and try and explain in detail what Apple Music is, and how the various components work together.

Photos for Mac is here! Well it's been out for a few weeks, but always best to let things settle down a bit!

Photos is the new photo management application to replace iPhoto and Aperture. Not a standalone application, Photos is baked into OS X, with deep integration with iCloud Photo Library. In this first of a three part series, I take a look at some of the preparation tasks required before migration, as well as the migration process itself.

With Photos on the Mac being released and iCloud Photo Library out of beta, it’s time to take another look at managing your photos on iOS.

In this week’s Mac show (SCOM0500) I demonstrate how to migrate your iPhoto or Aperture library to Photos and iCloud Photo Library.

You can access all your migrated videos and photos on your iPad or iPhone using iCloud Photo Library, as well as editing them, and having those edits replicated across all your devices.

A long overdue show, this week I return to Garageband on the Mac.

It's been quite a while (can you believe 2008!) since I looked at Garageband on the Mac and since then the app has had a complete re-write.

It may have lost Podcast support, but with a new user interface and some stunning new features, it's still an extremely powerful and impressive application.

In this second of a two part series, I take a look at animating multiple objects on a slide as well as exploring some of the specific table and chart animation effects, including the new Magic Chart effect.

The Presenter's Display is a fantastic tool, and has been updated with some great new features including the ability to rehearse and time your presentation in real time, viewing all your slide transitions and builds as well as taking notes - all at the same time!

With the new iCloud integration, you can open the same files on your Mac and iOS device, and even play your presentation from the web in a browser!

Keynote still remains one of my favourite applications.
