Keep It is an app designed to hold notes, videos, audio files, images, web links and any other kind of information you'd like to organize and be able to find later. No matter your organizational style, Keep It can handle it. Folders, bundles, tags, comments, coloured labels, saved searches - all methods are supported!

It is available for the Mac, and as a separate Universal app for iOS. Keep It is the destination for all those things you want to put somewhere, confident you will find them again later. Seamless syncing through iCloud allows you to use Keep it on all of your devices.

This week Allison dives deep into Keep It, goes through its many features, and shows you how it can help you make sense of all the pieces of information you want to keep track of in your digital life.

Focos

Date: 16th February 2018

Duration: 40:27

Show ref: SCOM0709

Focos is an iOS app optimised for dual-lens iPhones. These devices can create Portrait Mode photographs with a sharp subject and a blurry background. With the advent of iOS 11 and the High Efficiency Image Format (HEIF), Portrait Mode images store depth information data. Focos uses this data and allows you to manipulate the images after they've been taken.

You'll learn in this tutorial how to move the focus point and how to change the blurriness of the background, called the bokeh. You'll also discover how to change exactly how far back in the image the bokeh begins and ends using an unusual 3D view of your image. Allison will also show you how to use various filters to edit your images, again applying these effects to different areas of your image, by depth, alongside the bokeh.

Focos is an innovative app for iOS that works on your images in a truly unique way!

Make use of iCloud Photo Sharing and create a shared Photo Album, then display it on the iPad in Guided Access mode. Gift it to friends or family, or keep it on your desk or shelf for a continuously refreshing photo display. You can even collaborate with friends and family and share photos to display.

Tip - Video Saving to iOS

Whilst apps like Plex are great for syncing video to your iPhone or iPad for offline viewing, sometimes you just want to download a video from YouTube or Vimeo at a moment's notice. This happened to me last month just as I was about to board a plane.

The good news is that with a little setting up and some specific apps, it is entirely possible to download video content for offline use, directly to your iPad or iPhone.

This week I take a look at two stunning iOS Apps: Linea and Plotagraph+ Photo Animator

Linea is a simple but powerful sketching package for the iPad. There's no need to learn lots of controls or gestures; just fire it up and start sketching. I also show you Linea Link for the Mac, a companion app that gives you access to your iPad sketches on your Mac and export them in different formats or handoff to more complex apps.

Plotagraph+ Photo Animator is a unique application for the iPad and iPhone that allows you to animate static images. Create amazing effects and add life and dimension to your still photos. You can animate any image in seconds to produce some really spectacular results. Once animated, Plotagraph+ allows you to export your masterpiece in up to 8 different formats.

Although both apps are optimised for use with the Apple Pencil on the iPad, your can use both apps with touch only.

Tip - Gladys

Drag & Drop is great on iOS 11, but sometimes it can be difficult to drag to an application that's not immediately available. If you're dextrous, it's doable, but more often than not it can be quite troublesome.

Wouldn't it be great to just drag content to a storage area that you can access easily later on?

That's where Gladys comes in!

Gladys is a "shelf" app for all your dragged content. Just drag to Gladys and worry about where to use it later. Build a persistent library of content that you can search or filter, then just drag it out of Gladys when you're working in another application and need that content.

Gladys syncs using iCloud, so you can access your library across all of your iOS devices. It's a very useful and polished utility for iOS.

Mobile Safari is one of the most used applications in iOS and as such, is very feature-rich. However, many of its features are hidden behind long presses, which by their very nature are hard to discover.

In this tip video, we expose some of the more useful long press-triggered features to help you get the most out of Mobile Safari.

Tip - macOS - Preview Tips - Pt 3

Date: 28th March 2017

Duration: 06:06

Show ref: SCOM0616

Following on in the occasional series about the fantastic Preview app on the Mac, this weekly tip video covers some of the "party tricks" built right into Preview, and exposes a surprise in iOS too.

Firstly, I demonstrate how to extract beautiful full sized Application Icons from your installed apps with a few simple keystrokes, and use Preview to resize and export them.

Then I move on to the really smart way of setting up signatures in Preview on the Mac - either using your trackpad, or using your camera to snap your signature to use in your PDF forms.

Unfortunately there is no separate Preview app for iOS, but did you know that you can actually access Preview functionality on your iOS device, even creating and applying signatures? Annotate, create Loupes, add Text - it's all available for free in iOS - even if slightly hidden away.

What's more, any annotations you make to your documents will sync between your Mac and iOS, but even your signature "Library" will sync too.

Watch this week's tip and all will be revealed!

Reminders on the Mac, iPhone & Apple Watch

Date: 24th March 2017

Reminders is a surprisingly powerful application that comes with macOS, iOS and watchOS. With Reminders, you can bridge the gap between your calendar and a to do list. Reminders can be set for when you arrive or leave a location, they can be set for specific times and dates, they can repeat, and they can even be set to remind you to do something when you get into or out of your car.

Reminders even lets you share lists with other Apple users so you can collaborate on tasks. You can use Siri to set up Reminders on your Mac, but Siri on iOS and the Apple Watch, makes Reminders the best tool for when you're on the run.
