Tutorial Description

iOS 8.1 was released last week with a number of updates including Apple Pay, changes to the Messaging System, the re-introduction of the Camera Roll and opening up the iCloud Photo Library (Beta) to the public, as well as a number of bug fixes and improvements to iOS8 in general.

As we covered Photos last week, I wanted to finish off by covering iCloud Photo Library and explain the significance of this new iCloud service. The show takes you through setting up the new service, uploading your photos and a review of the syncing mechanism. I also cover the changes to way photos are edited, as well as a brief look at accessing iCloud Photo Library via iCloud.com.

As always with beta software or services, your mileage may vary but I've been very impressed with it up to now. But make sure you take suitable precautions before relying on iCloud Photo Library to take care of all your photos.

The full tutorial covers:

  • Camera Roll
  • iCloud Photo Library Setup
  • iPhone Setup
  • Browsing
  • Editing
  • iCloud Photo Library - Web Version

Great video. However be careful, when I turned on the icloud beta , it also uploaded deleted photos. I had to switch off in the middle, delete photos first from deleted album, than turn on icloud beta back on. At that moment it only uploaded my photos which went smoothly :)

My experience is somewhat different. When I went to switch on iCloud Photo Library it warned me that it was about to delete 1776 photos (out of 1778 on my iPhone) as any that were synched via iTunes could not be uploaded. Needless to say I did not switch it on.
