Mind mapping is a great way to quickly capture and organise thoughts.

iThoughtsHD for iPad is one of the top mind mapping applications for the iPad. As well as including a host of graphical elements to customise your mind maps, it has been optimised for rapid data entry with some clever gesture based and keyboard shortcuts.

This week, a new guest screencaster, Allison Sheridan, takes you through the basics of iThoughtsHD on the iPad.

Be sure to check out this week's companion episode - SCOM0449 - iThoughtsX for the Mac

The full tutorial covers:

  • Menus
  • Creating Our First Mindmap
  • Moving Topics
  • Floating Topics
  • Using The Keyboard
  • Formatting
  • Notes and Presentation Mode

Update: As sometimes happens, shortly after we produced the screencast about iThoughtsHD for the iPad, the developers over at Toketaware came out with a brand new version. There are a couple of big changes, most significant of which is that it's a universal app now so it works on iPhone and iPad, and it's called simply iThoughts.

It's also had a major iOS 7 makeover and a new way to sync your mind maps (luckily Allison didn't show you the old way!)

The good news is that for the "next few weeks" (as of 14th May 2014) the developer has it on sale for 80% off so it's only $1.99 in the App Store

This is an excellent screencast - but it doesn't cover the one area I find really confusing - syncing the Mac and the iPad using DropBox. Any chance you'll be covering that, Allison?

It would have been nice to have a short description of WHAT a mind map is, and perhaps an example. What problem is mind mapping trying to solve, Allison??
