Tutorial Description

So many iCloud sync services to choose from - iCloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, Box, Google Drive and many, many more.

All these services rely on a central server infrastructure and all require you to pay for extra storage or bandwidth.

What if you could remove the need for centralised servers, sync unlimited files across multiple platforms securely and best of all, have all this at no cost?

Well you can with BitTorrent Sync!

BitTorrent Sync is a peer to peer file transfer mechanism built on the highly efficient BitTorrent Protocol. Designed for ease of use and with large file support, BitTorrent Sync is a highly effective way to keep folders of files in sync across your LAN or across the Internet. You can invite others to share your folders with either read only or read write access. All unlimited and for free.

In this episode I take a look at installing and using BitTorrent Sync on OSX plus I take a peek at BitTorrent Bundles. In this week's iOS show - SCOI0211 - I also take a look at BitTorrent Sync on iOS

Please note that this tutorial is based on BitTorrent Sync 1.4 and version 2.0 has since been released since the tutorial was recorded.

All is not lost though, you'll get a good understanding of the core technologies and use cases of BitTorrent Sync by viewing the tutorials, it's just that now it's even more feature rich.

The full tutorial covers:

  • Introduction
  • Adding Folders
  • Synchronising
  • Syncing via the Internet
  • Additional Configuration
  • BitTorrent Bundles
